Daniel Mundis, the son of George and Sarah (Griffith) Mundis, was born 17 June 1834 in Southern York County, PA. Daniel and his siblings appear on the list of York County Poor Children. Their father Daniel is alive on the 1840 list but is deceased by the 1842 list. |
I have been unable to find a marriage record for Daniel and Henrietta Albright Mundis. The 1900 Census states they were married 46 years, making the time of their marriage around 1854. I have a strong suspicion that they married in Baltimore County, Maryalnd. Henrietta's family were living near Oregon Ridge (near Cockeysville, Maryland) around this time and she and Daniel are living there in 1860.
They later lived in Winterstown, York County, Pennsyvania. I visited the home many years ago with my Uncle Bill but sadly we didn't have a camera with us. When I returned and found the site years later the main house, a log cabin, had burned down but the wood frame house I was told was used for making cigars was still standing but in bad repair. Daniel was a tobacco farmer and I remember Pap talking that. The stone foundation from the old barn that I had seen on my first visit was almost hidden by growth. I do have some photos from the second visit that I will post in an album here soon.
Daniel and Henrietta had 16 children, amazingly 13 of them lived to be adults. Henrietta, born 13 March 1838 on the Small Family Farm, was one of 16 children herself. Her parents were George and Salome (Kleinfelter) Albright.
Henrietta died 18 September 1908 and on 20 September 1908 was buried at the E.V. Cemetery in Winterstown. After her death Daniel lived with one of his sons, Charles Franklin Mundis and his family. He later lived with his daughter, Mary Jane ("Jennie") at 504 S. George St. He died there on 10 August 1917. His obituary stated he had gone out to sit on the porch and the family discovered he died while there. On 13 August 1917 he was buried with Henrietta and their three infant sons in Winterstown.
